According to DHS skipper JJ Fourie, with his team being so young and them asking so many questions, it is a sign that they want to play and they want to improve on what they do and as a captain that is encouraging to see.

Hometown advantage. That’s what the captain of the Diamantveld High School Under-19 rugby team, JJ Fourie, hinted at when he said that they definitely have a chance this year to win some games.

According to Fourie, they have had good momentum, and winning a game is on the cards this year.

“We are hoping to take a win against HTS Drostdy, and we are not scared of Boland Landbou, but being top 10 schools, they are very dangerous on any day,” he told the DFA. “But playing at home is counting in our favour,” he added confidently.

According to Fourie, with his team being so young and them asking so many questions, it is a sign that they want to play and they want to improve on what they do and as a captain that is encouraging to see, he says.

When asked how he intends to keep his team motivated if things are not going their way during a match, Fourie said that it is important as a captain to stay positive because the players look to you for guidance, and if they see you down, they become discouraged.

“It is important to keep their heads up high and remind them that the game is not over, and if they give their all for 60 minutes, they can walk off the field knowing they gave everything.”

Many thumbs are being held for Diamantveld to do well this year. And let’s just hope that the forward momentum they currently have, and the fire in their bellies, will be enough to secure some solid wins this year.
