SPU Sport hosted a Youth Development Tournament on Saturday, August 5, aiming to nurture young football talent.
The tournament took place at the SPU Sports Precinct and welcomed Under-19 male and female players, forming four teams each. The SPU Youth Development Tournament has as its aim to connect sports and education, benefiting local youth by providing opportunities for growth and skill development.
The tournament’s structure for 2023 resulted from collaborative efforts between Frances Baard Region and SAFA Regional Office. Handpicked talents from the region showcased excellence, with Sol Plaatje, Dikgatlong, Magareng, and Phokwane Local Football associations contributing to participant selection.

Kimberley Girls’ High School took the honours in the girls’ section and Sol Plaatje Local Football Association emerged victorious for the boys, with GHS securing a 2-0 win against Dikgatlhong LFA and the male team achieving a remarkable 5-1 scoreline against the same opponents.
Ms. Elmien Cloete, SPU Sports Senior Manager, emphasised the tournament’s transformative power, nurturing talent and promoting education. She highlighted its impact on young athletes’ lives, fostering talent, education, and community engagement.
