Kimberley’s Diamantveld High School is on the verge of making history in the Diamond City. The school, in collaboration with the Northern Cape Cricket Union, recently announced the inaugural top-tier high school cricket tournament set to take place at the Kimberley Diamond Oval.

This groundbreaking event will mark the first school cricket tournament to be held on an international cricket field, with broadcasting rights secured by SuperSport Schools.

Nine elite schools from across the country are gearing up to participate in this tournament and be part of history.

The line-up includes esteemed institutions such as Grey College Bloemfontein, Saint Andrew’s Bloemfontein, Paarl Boys’ High, Potchefstroom Volkskool, Hoërskool Noord-Kaap, Hoërskool Kalahari, Noord-Kaap HUB Team, Carlton van Heerden, and the hosting school, Hoërskool Diamantveld.

The tournament promises to be an action-packed affair and is not only expected to showcase high-quality cricket but is also aimed at fostering the development of cricket within the Northern Cape region.

This goal is within reach, especially with the Northern Cape Cricket Union’s support. The tournament will take a significant step towards nurturing young talent and promoting the sport within local communities.

As mentioned earlier, one of the most remarkable features of this tournament is the broadcast coverage. While all matches will be available on the SuperSport Schools platform, three select matches will be broadcast live on DSTV channel 216.

This move ensures that cricket enthusiasts across the nation can catch the exhilarating matches as they unfold.

Two teams from each school, an Under-15 and an Under-19 team will do battle in the highly anticipated tournament. The opening match is scheduled for September 22, when Hoërskool Diamantveld take on Grey College Bloemfontein. Both teams are preparing to set the stage for what promises to be a thrilling and competitive tournament.

Speaking to the DFA, the principal of Hoërskool Diamantveld, Leon Victor, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting this remarkable event, saying, “We are excited to partner with the community and the Northern Cape Cricket Union to bring this unprecedented cricket tournament to fruition. Our goal is not only to entertain but also to contribute to the growth of cricket within the Northern Cape.”

So with a new era of school cricket set to dawn at Kimberley’s Diamond Oval later this month, cricket fans and sports enthusiasts alike can mark their calendars for the Diamantveld Cricket Tournament. It promises to be explosive; see you there!
