Nine arrested in Postmasburg drug bust operation

A multi-disciplinary SAPS team arrested nine suspects and seized drugs, cash, suspected stolen SANDF uniforms, illicit ammunition and gas pistols during raids in Postmasburg.

THE MULTI-disciplinary SAPS team Operation Vala Umgodi recently conducted a successful crime-prevention operation in Postmasburg. Acting on intelligence-driven information, the team targeted suspected drug activities in the area.

According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane, the team raided several identified premises suspected to be drug houses during the operation on May 3.

Nine male suspects, aged between 20 and 48 years old, were apprehended during the operation. They face charges related to possession of drugs, possession of illicit ammunition and possession of suspected stolen goods. The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is R22,000.

In addition to the arrests and the confiscated drugs, the team also seized money believed to be proceeds from criminal activities, cellphones, suspected stolen South African National Defence Force (SANDF) uniforms, ammunition and gas pistols.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Postmasburg Magistrate’s Court soon.

The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, commended the team for their efforts in removing dangerous weapons and drugs from the streets. She also encouraged community members to continue reporting illegal activities to the police.
