Outreach programmes that advance women’s causes were the focus this past week for Brenda Mafunisa, former football player and now proud owner-manager of a sports management company, Brenmauza Holdings.

The former provincial football player turned sports entrepreneur capped a jam-packed schedule that was dedicated to honouring women in whatever fashion this week with a stopover at De Aar district hospital on Sunday.

Former and current national women’s squad players, among them Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk, Gabriel Salgado, Nompumelelo Nyandeni, Robyn Moodley and Richmond United Ladies’ striker Nthabiseng Majiya accompanied Mafunisa to the district hospital in De Aar.

They came bearing gifts for the patients.

Concern and getting involved with charitable causes that favour women has been an almost decades-long passion for Mafunisa and her company.

At the beginning of the observances of women’s month Mafunisa had, as usual, ramped up her company’s activities around women’s issues and launched the Northern Cape Women’s Cup.

Mafunisa and several of her playmates from the provincial Sasol Women’s League and Banyana Banyana joined her in a charity match at the Galeshewe artificial turf for a ceremonial game in honour of women.
