SA Sevens captain Sonwabile ‘Shakes’ Soyizwapi says that despite not being as big physicality as some of the other teams, it’s the size of your heart that counts, and the players have to show that this weekend in Sydney.
IT’S time for South Africa’s Blitzboks to show heart when they take the field in the Sydney Sevens today (Friday).
That’s the message from team captain Sonwabile ‘Shakes’ Soyizwapi after the Blitzboks failed miserably at the Hamilton Sevens last weekend, finishing in seventh place overall.
Currently fourth on the World Series standings, Soyizwapi says the players take responsibility for their poor effort last weekend.
He says: “The players had to take it on the chin; it was clear in the reviews that we neglected the system and that the mistakes we made were of our own doing …”

But he adds that despite not being as big physicality as some of the other players in the competition that it’s “the size of your heart that counts, and we have to show that this weekend”.
South Africa kick off their campaign in Pool B against Kenya at 6.06am, before facing Uruguay at 12.44am and New Zealand at 6.49am tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
