A SUSPECTED drug dealer was arrested following a high-speed police chase in Beaconsfield.
Kimberley police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the Provincial Organised Crime Detectives, the Kimberley K9 and the Multi-Dimension Organised Crime (MDOC) units followed up on information about a drug deal that was scheduled to take place on September 25.
“The team approached a charcoal Mazda 2, when the driver jumped back into his vehicle and sped off. The police pursued the driver of the Mazda 2, who apparently lost control around a curve in Study Street in Beaconsfield and crashed into a fence,” said Kock.
He added that the suspect allegedly tried to swallow some of the drugs but was stopped and arrested by the SAPS members.
“The police confiscated 22 grams of tik with an estimated street value of R10,000 and also seized the Mazda 2 allegedly used in the commission of the crime.”
Kock stated that the 36-year-old suspect, a male foreign national, was charged with dealing in drugs, defeating the ends of justice and resisting arrest.
“The suspect is expected to appear before the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon.
“The police will continue unabatedly to squeeze the space for drug dealers to operate. The investigation continues,” Kock said.
