SAPS Crime Prevention unit members arrested a suspect who was carrying a backpack containing tik in the vicinity of the New Park shopping complex.
Kimberley police spokesperson Captain Tessa Jansen said the members were busy with foot patrols in the CBD on Monday, at about 12.10pm, when they spotted several people standing near Cash Crusaders.
“One of the men started moving backwards, before he turned around and started running when the police members approached the group,” said Jansen. “The members gave chase and a community member stopped and offered a member a lift in order to pursue the suspect.”
The suspect was apprehended and his backpack was searched.
“A plastic bag containing 10 smaller plastic bags of tik with an estimated street value of R323,675 was found inside the backpack.
“The suspect was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs and will appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon,” Jansen added.
