THE SERIOUSNESS of bullying and teenage pregnancy was highlighted during a visit conducted at Postmasburg High School by Postmasburg SAPS Social Crime Prevention officials and the Tsantsabane Drug and Alcohol Centre on Monday.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Nomvuyo Makoloi said the officers also interacted with and educated the community on these social challenges.

“The matters discussed included school safety patrols, teenage pregnancy and bullying and discipline. Bullying is a serious challenge as it can affect the morale of the bullied learner. Learners should refrain from such behaviour and report any incidents of bullying,” said Makoloi.

She added that the Tsantsabane Drug and Alcohol Centre explained the effects of using drugs and alcohol.

“Learners were warned about the dangers that the bubbly ‘okka pipe’ and cigarettes pose to their lungs and health,” said Makoloi.

“School safety is a priority for the police and similar programmes will continue unabated, as schools are supposed to be safe havens for the learners.”
