N Cape records eight more Covid-19 deaths as cases mount

AN ADDITIONAL eight Covid-19 deaths have been recorded in the Northern Cape, bringing the total number of fatalities in the Province to 23.

The Minister of Health announced on Thursday evening that there were eight more deaths in the Province of people who had died from Covid-19-related illnesses.

Three of the deaths were recorded in the Sol Plaatje municipal area – a 39-year-old female, a 66-year-old male and an 80-year-old male.

Three people from the Renosterberg municipal area also died, including a 53-year-old female, a 60-year-old female and a 61-year-old female.

The other two deaths were recorded in the Dikgatlong municipal area, where a 66-year-old male died, and the John Taolo Gaetsewe district, where a 66-year-old female died.

Sol Plaatje has recorded a total of nine deaths since the start of the pandemic. Three people have died in Dikgatlong, one in Phokwane, two in Ga Segonyana, one in Joe Morolong, two in Kareeberg, three in Renosterberg, one in Thembelihle and one person in Kai !Garib.

The minister also announced that the total number of people who have tested positive in the Northern Cape increased from 2 727 to 2 970, which is the largest increase in the Province to date.

An additional 83 people in Sol Plaatje tested positive, bringing the total in the municipal area to 1 043, with 461 recoveries.

In Gamagara there were 43 new positive cases, bringing the total number there to 144, while in Ga Segonyana there were 24 new cases, bringing the total in this municipal area to 267.

A total of 27 new cases were confirmed in Umsobomvu, where there are now a total of 546 positive cases.

There are three new cases in Dikgatlong (which has a total of 47 cases to date), two new cases in Phokwane (56 in total), two in Joe Morolong (43 in total), one new case in Hantam (total of 31), one new case in Khai-Ma (13 in total), six new cases in Nama Khoi (30 in total), 14 new cases in Emthanjeni (244 in total), one new case in Kareeberg (28 in total), 15 new cases in Renosterberg (59 in total), one new case in Thembelihle (75 in total), one new case in Ubuntu (49 in total), six new cases in Dawid Kruiper (101 in total), four new cases in Kgatelopele (11 in total) and two new cases in Tsantsabane (82 in total).

A total of 1 152 people in the Province have recovered.
