GBVF sentences secured in various NC courts

Courts in the Northern Cape recently handed down sentences to various offenders for “criminal activities that border on gender-based violence and femicide”.

THE MONTH of June saw courts in the Northern Cape handing down three more sentences to various offenders for criminal activities that border on gender-baased violence and femicide (GBVF).

The Upington Magistrate’s Court sentenced 43-year-old Gert Isaks to five years’ imprisonment, suspended for five years, for statutory rape.

The accused was sentenced for raping a 12-year-old girl on different occasions in Keimoes during 2022.

The case was investigated by Sergeant Derrick Dippenaar of the Kakamas SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.

The Garies Regional Court handed down a three-year sentence to Shaun Klein, 26, for house-breaking, while an attempted rape case against him was withdrawn.

The accused broke into a house on March 22, 2021 and allegedly tried to rape a 30-year-old woman who was sleeping.

The victim woke up and the accused fled. He was arrested and bail was successfully opposed by the police.

Sergeant Landrew Cloete of the Springbok FCS unit investigated the case.

In Kenhardt , Carmin Prins, 21, was found guilty of assaulting a 10-year-old boy by kicking him all over his body.

She was sentenced for assault GBH to 18 months’ imprisonment, suspended for five years.

The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Hope Mohutsiwa of the Kakamas FCS.

The SAPS management commended all the FCS investigating officials for their “dedication, loyalty and commitment that ensured that no impunity is granted for perpetrators of GBVF in the Northern Cape Province”.
