UYAPO Engineering Projects handed over food hampers to five families in Homelite as part of its social responsibility programme.

Site manager Stone Moleko said they were about 98 percent complete with the project to replace a 2.1-kilometre sewerage line in Home Valley, near Barkly Road.

“The company is based in Midrand and has a satellite office in Kathu. This is the first of many programmes to plough back into the community and assist needy families,” said Moleko.

Ward 3 councillor Derick Korkie said he had identified the beneficiaries.

“The recipients of the food parcels are underprivileged and are vulnerable, elderly people who are looking after children,” said Korkie.

He added that the food parcels, which consisted of a R250 voucher to purchase electricity, a two-kilogram chicken and tinned, fresh and dried foodstuff, were worth R1,400 each.

“It should last the families for at least a month.”
