A GROUP of tentpegging (gymkhana) competitors from Kimberley are taking part in the South African Tentpegging Championships in Rawsonville, which runs from December 9 to 16.

The riders – Danike Viljoen, Mienke and Carli van Niekerk and Lauretta Myburgh – are trained by Bennie Heckroodt from the Jacobsdal Riding Club and will represent the Free State junior team.

A parent of one of the riders, Desirèe Viljoen, stated that the young competitors started training in tentpegging 18 months ago.

“They discovered their passion for the sport and are ready to showcase their talents,” said Viljoen.
