Cops seek mother after dog found with skull of newborn baby

The police in Upington have registered an inquest docket after a dog was found carrying the skull of a newborn baby in its mouth.

THE POLICE in Upington have registered an inquest docket after a dog was found carrying the skull of a newborn baby in its mouth.

The SAPS spokesperson in the ZF Mgcawu District, Sergeant Omphile Masegela, said on Tuesday that the dog was seen with the skull in the Leerkrans area, near its home, on July 18, 2023.

“The owner of the dog alerted the police and investigations were instituted, which subsequently led to the rest of the body being discovered in the nearby veld.

“The mother of the infant is still unknown and the police are requesting the public to assist with information to conclude the investigation,” Masegela added.
