Rovers, Richmond Ladies vie for Top prize in inter-LFA tourney

The Easter tournament will be played at the Merino Park stadium in De Aar from Friday morning starting at 9am to Sunday afternoon.

TOP SAFA regional football teams, United Rovers and Richmond United Ladies are runaway favourites in the Pixley Ka Seme region’s Northern Cape Premier sponsored Top16 Easter Soccer tournament set for April 15-17 at De Aar’s AstroTurf.

David Motlatsi, Safa Pixley Ka Seme Chief Administrator, confirmed that United Rovers and Richmond United Ladies have both thrown their hats in the ring and will be challenging for the top prizes of the Men’s and Women’s knockout championships.

The Easter tournament will be played at the Merino Park stadium in De Aar from Friday morning starting at 9am to Sunday afternoon.

Rovers are favoured based on their now sustained performance in the region’s ABC Motsepe League for just over five years. Richmond Ladies too come with considerable weight to the regional contest.

Richmond Ladies get regular game time in the women’s Super League against top sides such as Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, the latter being the first ever CAF Women’s Champions League winners in South Africa.

Richmond Ladies will compete in the Top 8 of the inter LFA competition while Rovers will battle it out in the men’s Top 16 knockouts.

The high riding past champions of the Safa ABC Motsepe League’s Pixley Ka Seme district, United Rovers will be up against the likes of following LFA champions:

Men’s Teams:

From Emthanjeni LFA: United Rovers and Mighty Movers

Renosterberg LFA: Thistle FC and Super Strikers

from Siyathemba LFA: Young Lions and Mix United

Siyancuma LFA: Bocca FC and Charlton FC

Kareeberg LFA: Blue Birds and Juventus

Ubuntu LFA: Juventus and Two for Joy

Umsobomvu LFA: Santos FC and Nusa Rangers

Thembelihle LFA: Fairway Starsand Flying Birds

Women’s Teams:

Richmond United Ladies in the Women’s stream will compete against the following top LFA champs: Rising Stars Ladies from Renosterberg LFA, Incredible Ladies from Thembelihle LFA, Flying Birds Ladies from Siyancuma LFA. Then, from Siyathemba LFA come Griqua Chiefs Ladies, United Ladies, Salt Lake Ladies and Young Lions Ladies.

The competition carries a R150,000 prize tag. It ends on Sunday.

Admission is R40 at the gate.
