Northern Cape Cricket’s Under-13 team is the latest beneficiary of the provincial cricket authority’s effort to tie corporate sponsors to age group teams.
NCC Cricket services manager Shaheed Alexander on Tuesday announced that Ekapa Mines had signed on to kit out the union’s junior team.
The union had a fortnight ago announced a major revamp and repositioning of, especially, its senior women’s team.
Alexander had at that occasion at the country club in Cassandra, said the provincial cricket organisation had a plan to involve, especially, girl children in cricket activities.
“We must introduce girls to the modified games of mini cricket. Primary and high school girls must be encouraged to partake in league fixtures and monitored to completion,” he had said.
On Tuesday morning, at the Herlear Primary School sports precinct, Alexander paraded the girls Under-13 team kitted out by sponsors Ekapa Mines.
Alexander also announced that the Northern Cape Under-13 girls team will participate in the upcoming regional cricket week from December 8-11 in Benoni, Gauteng.
The team received sponsorship from the Ekapa Mines group for clothing, transport and accommodation.
