THE PROVINCIAL finals of the Sanlam-Kay Motsepe Schools Cup kicks off at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington on Saturday (tomorrow) where the four regional champions will play for the honour of representing the Northern Cape at the national contest in KwaZulu-Natal in December.

Homevale High School’s football team will represent the Frances Baard district at the competition. Homevale will be competing against Dibotswa High School from the John Taole Getsewe district, Kakamas High from the ZF Mgcawu area, Steinkopf High from the Namakwa district and Britstown’s Theron High school in the Pixley Ka Seme district.

Early in this month Homevale High came out tops in the Frances Baard leg of the competition winning all three of their qualifying matches in the regional play-offs which were held in Warrenton.

Homevale High then had scythed through Reakantswe High with four goals to none in regular time. They then clobbered Vaalspan High 4-0 before finishing off Mogomotsi High in a closely contested game which they won 3-2.

Job Smith, the schools football co-ordinator at the Department of Education, confirmed that the SA Football Association has taken charge of all the logistics around the schools tournament. The representative of Homevale High School was not available for comment.
