Moroke Boxing Promotions (MBP) has swung its debut professional fight bill back to the Diamond City after the desert capital Upington was found wanting in terms of the required medical facilities prescribed by the sport’s controlling organ Boxing South Africa.

Promoter Sinazo Moroke broke the news about the fight bill’s venue switch on Thursday. “It’s happening in Kimberley now at the Recreation hall on the 27th of August in Galeshewe,” Moroke said.

“We had a bit of a challenge in terms of certain logistics which forced us to move down from Upington to Kimberley. It relates to medical (facilities). Normally it is required that wherever a boxing tournament is staged it must be done in a district where there is a medical facility nearby that has a neuro-surgical ward.

“So that was one of the challenges that we faced and why we moved the tournament,” she added.

Other than the venue switch Moroke says the fight bill will remain unchanged.

Fickburg’s Cherise Smith will be aiming for an upset in the junior lightweight stakes where she is heading the bill with Cape Town’s Simamakele Tusheni.

The other women fighters on the bill are Emihle Ntunja of Cape Town who will sweat it out against Harriet Mtende from Johannesburg in a flyweight four-rounder.

Kimberlites on the undercard include Musa Ntlangula who will feature in a junior featherweight four-rounder against Tshepo Mokgele of Bloemfontein. The other is Joseph Magugwana who will make his debut against journeyman Andile Mfeka of Welkom over four rounds.

The pride of the Northern Cape, Postmasburg pugilist Thapelo Mogenene, will climb through the ropes on Saturday against Simamkele Finini who comes all the way from Cape Town in the men’s junior flyweight undercard.

Tickets at R150 per entry will be available at the venue.
