ACTION is on the horizon in Kimberley as the city gears up for an exciting weekend of junior football.

The 2023 Ace Cup Under-15s seven-a-side tournament will take place at the Real Madrid grounds in Ipopeng on Sunday, and with talented young players ready to show off their skills, and fight for the ultimate prize this event promises to be worth watching.

In an interview with the DFA, Deshin Chetty, the owner of Ace Outfitters and the mastermind behind this exciting tournament, expressed his enthusiasm for the second edition of the event. Chetty shared the inspiring story behind the inception of the Ace Cup, which has become an annual tradition for his family.

“Every year on the 16th of June, my family and I used to prepare and distribute 100 delicious bunnie chows in Greenpoint as our way of giving back to the community. However, due to my mom’s health concerns, I decided to start a soccer tournament for the youth, which led to the birth of the Ace Cup,” explained Chetty.

This year’s edition will see eight formidable teams from the region, all vying for the prestigious title. The competing teams are Tswaragano All Stars, Diamond City, Diamond Footballers, Madiba, Deveers, Rainbow Stars, Forever United, and Riverton Supersport.

Chetty explained to the DFA that each game will consist of intense 40-minute showdowns, ensuring an action-packed tournament for the spectators.

The participants have more than just pride at stake, as a plethora of rewards await them. The winners will be awarded a magnificent floating trophy, along with the coveted Golden Ball, Golden Glove, and Golden Boot trophies.

Additionally, gold, silver, and bronze medals will be presented to the deserving players. To further encourage them and acknowledge their efforts various prizes, including boots, T-shirts, caps, and pencil bags, will be given away. Moreover, the triumphant teams will be awarded generous cash prizes.

A grateful Chetty extended his appreciation to the tournament sponsors, who played a pivotal role in making the tournament a reality. Mille sponsored the event with boots, Twizza provided cold drinks, Durburg contributed valuable funds, and Soviet joined the cause with their generous donations.

“This is an initiative close to my heart, and I aim to continue organising the Ace Cup annually. This tournament serves as a platform for young boys who are passionate about soccer to exhibit their skills and be duly rewarded for their hard work,” Chetty enthused.

Soccer fans as well as residents of Kimberley are invited to be part of the electrifying atmosphere and support the future of soccer in our region as these young guns give their all to claim the championship trophy.

The 2023 Ace Cup Under-15s seven-a-side tournament is a celebration of youth and their love for the beautiful game, and it is definitely an event not to be missed.
