Former president Jacob Zuma has distanced himself from the people who have registered a non-profit company with a bank account under his name.
FORMER president Jacob Zuma has distanced himself from the people who have registered a non-profit company (NPC) with a bank account under his name.
In a short statement issued by the Jacob Zuma Foundation, it stated it had no knowledge of the company and the bank account “Zuma for president 22”.
Zuma’s spokesperson, Vukile Mathabela, said it was imperative that the public is aware of the fraudulent fund-raising account.
The NPC was opened under registration number K20227958 with a bank account, but Mathabela said that neither Zuma nor his foundation knew anything about it.
“The former president, Jacob Zuma, is aware of the comrades who still believe in his leadership. They have even created a WhatsApp group called Zuma for president campaign. The bank account Zuma for president 22 is not approved by Jacob Zuma. The aforesaid NPC and its bank account can be ceased and cancelled by notice with immediate effect, and such notice be placed on the respective WhatsApp group,” read the statement.
Zuma had, in the past, said he had been approached by people who wanted him to contest for both president and the national chairperson positions in the ANC but indicated that he was available for the latter.
Zuma will participate in the 55th conference since he was chosen as a delegate by his own branch in Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal.
