UPDATE: Death toll in Sasolburg head-on collision rises to 9

The head-on collision happened when a taxi and a truck collided head-on on the R82 Koppies Road in Sasolburg.

THE DEATH TOLL following the collision between a taxi and and a truck on the R82 Koppies Road in Sasolburg has risen to nine.

Initially the death-toll stood at seven while three were reportedly injured.

According to Russel Meiring, ER communications officer ER24 paramedics and several other services arrived on the scene before 8 am and found the taxi and the truck on the side of the road. “Both the truck and taxi had sustained a significant amount of damage in the collision.”

Meiring said on closer inspection, medics found several patients lying trapped inside the taxi.

After treatment, the patients were transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations, he added.
