THE DEPARTMENT of Basic Education (DBE) says it has stepped up its security across all points related to the handling of question papers before the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination.
Minister Angie Motshekga held a media briefing on Sunday to outline the country’s state of readiness for the matric exams.
She said all pupils sitting for the NSC exams and their parents have signed a “commitment agreement” to maintain honesty and not to participate in irregularities during the writing of the exams.
“The commitment agreement binds the learners and parents to follow the rules relating to the exam. In line with this agreement, learners and parents are obliged to make any irregularity-related information immediately available to the school principal or the DBE hotline.”
Motshekga said pupils are also expected to surrender cellphones and any other related device if there is an allegation of involvement in an act of dishonesty.
She added that the department continues to liaise closely with Eskom, the security cluster and other relevant stakeholders to manage the risks posed by load shedding and other security-related matters.
