Work on the sewer pipeline in Roodepan has been completed which, according to Sol Plaatje Municipality, should provide a permanent solution to blockages in the area.

Spokesperson for Sol Plaatje Municipality Sello Matsie said on Tuesday that repairs on the collapsed sewer pipeline in Eagle Street started on Saturday July 10.

“The scope of work entailed excavation of about 8 metres deep to remove and replace the old asbestos pipe and the old manhole.

“It was during this process that we intermittently Interrupted water supply to the Roodepan area only, to allow the contractor to complete the work. This was mainly to reduce waste water flows that finds it’s way to the area of operations. We are pleased to inform the general public that the work has been successfully completed and services have been restored. This should provide a permanent solution to sewer blockages in the area.”

He requested the public to assist in safeguarding the sewer pump stations around the city from vandals.

“We appreciate patience and cooperation from the Roodepan residents who were affected negatively.”
