Woman critical after being gang-raped and set alight

A 34-YEAR-old Kimberley woman who was gang-raped and later set alight is in critical condition in hospital.

The incident took place on Friday evening as the woman was on her way home.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the woman was found in front of a shanty in Lethabo Park, Roodepan, on Saturday.

“It is alleged that she was raped by three unknown men before she was set alight with paraffin. She is currently receiving medical treatment and is in a critical condition,” said Kock.

He added that the Galeshewe SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit is investigating the incident.

No arrests have been made yet.
