‘Wanted’ suspect arrested in NC

A SUSPECT, who is listed on the national wanted list on numerous charges of theft, was arrested in Jan Kempdorp.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said that the 52-year-old suspect, Tony Thobela, is linked to 10 cases that were reported in Jan Kempdorp, Warrenton, Delportshoop and Barkly West, including housebreaking and theft, theft of copper cables, and theft and possession of suspected stolen property.

Gamieldien said Thobela was arrested on Friday, July 30 by members of the Jan Kempdorp and Warrenton detectives and the Hartswater Crime Intelligence unit after he was found in possession of suspected stolen items with an estimated value of R140,000.

“Numerous electrical appliances including televisions, fridges, laptops, musical instruments, gas cylinders, microwaves, sound systems, camping gear and tools were recovered at a house in Masakeng in Valspan in Jan Kempdorp,” said Gamieldien.

She added that Thobela appeared in the Jan Kempdorp Magistrate’s court on Monday, August 2.

“The case was remanded until August 11 for a formal bail application. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance.”
