THE MINISTER of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi, and the Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul, will launch the labour activation programme and careers fair in Kimberley on Friday.

A spokesperson for the Department of Labour and Employment, Teboho Thejane, said the labour activation programme (LAP) is a key intervention of the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) that will result in the creation of six projects meant to benefit 13,684 beneficiaries.

“So far, the programme has been successfully launched in eight provinces, marking this as the last in the current phase,” said Thejane.

He added that the careers exhibitions, under the tutelage of the Public Employment Services branch, will focus on creating a platform for work seekers to meet prospective employers.

“Employers have the chance to register work and learning opportunities, while work seekers have the chance to register on the department’s database, where they will be matched to opportunities.”

Thejane encouraged work seekers to bring along their identity document/card, curriculum vitae and copies of their qualifications.

The LAP launch will be held at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre, from 8am until 2pm, while the careers fair will take place at Galeshewe Stadium, from 8am until 4pm.
