An abusive boyfriend was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment in the Colesberg regional court this week after he was found guilty of stabbing his girlfriend with a pair of sheep shears.
AN ABUSIVE boyfriend was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment in the Colesberg regional court this week for murdering his girlfriend by stabbing her with a pair of sheep shears.
The deceased sustained several stab wounds.
Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the accused Voyo Mrola, 38, was arrested after he was identified by bystanders.
“The court heard that the accused was abusive towards his girlfriend.
“On November 13, 2021, at about 6.50pm the accused used sheep shears to stab his girlfriend at Masiphakame in Kuyasa. The investigation revealed that the accused and the victim were involved in an argument on the day of the incident.”
He added that in an unrelated incident, Xolile Johnson, 30, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment in the Colesberg regional court for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend.
“She sustained several stab wounds. The incident happened in Masiphakame in Kuyasa on May 20 2020.
“She was transported to the local hospital to receive medical treatment.”
Tawana stated that Johnson was found guilty and sentenced on May 11 in the Colesberg regional court.
The acting deputy provincial commissioner for crime detection Brigadier Nicky Mills welcomed the sentences.
