Upington cops nab suspected burglar

A 26-year-old suspected burglar was arrested after goods that were reported as stolen were sold at a house in Louisvaleweg in Upington.

A 26-YEAR-old suspect was arrested in connection with a burglary in the Upington area. The arrest came after authorities discovered goods that were reported as stolen being sold at a residence in Louisvaleweg.

According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela, a burglary was reported to the police in Upington on February 25.

Sergeant Steven de Wee and Constable Wiseman Kalipa proceeded to conduct a search of a house in Louisvaleweg, leading to a significant breakthrough.

“A laptop, cellphone and shoes that matched the description of goods that were reported as stolen were found at the premises,” said Masegela.

“A 26-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of burglary. He is in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon.”

Masegela reminded the public that buying or being in possession of stolen goods is a punishable offence.

“Any suspected stolen goods can be reported at your nearest police station or contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or another option is to report anonymously on the MySAPS App,” Masegela advised.
