Three suspects were arrested in Rietfontein for the murder of a 40-year-old woman in Groot Mier.

THREE suspects were arrested in Rietfontein for the murder of a 40-year-old woman in Groot Mier.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said the police discovered the woman’s body lying next to the house of one of the suspects on May 6, at about 2pm.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was apparently involved in an argument with the suspects regarding a bank card belonging to one of the suspects,” said Gamieldien.

She said a team consisting of Rietfontein Vispol, Rietfontein Detectives and Rietfontein Border Policing traced the suspects to Klein Mier and a community farm on Wednesday, May 12, where they were arrested.

“The swift action by the collective team under the command of Sergeant Justin Tyres, attached to the provincial investigation team and currently seconded to Rietfontein, led to the arrest of one female aged 30 and two males aged 24 and 34 years.”

Gamieldien said that the suspects were expected to appear in the Rietfontein circuit court soon on charges of murder.

“The acting deputy provincial commissioner of Crime Detection, Brigadier Nicky Mills, applauded the team for the thorough investigation and swift apprehension and arrest of the suspects.”
