YOUNG people from the John Taolo Gaetsewe municipal area have benefited from access to tertiary education thanks to Kathu Solar Park’s bursary programme that was launched earlier this year.

The 2022 programme intake has provided seven local students with full bursary support, covering tuition fees, accommodation, books and travel expenses.

Each student has also been equipped with a laptop and data to make it easier to complete assignments and online assessments.

The students also receive a monthly allowance, ongoing student mentoring and the opportunity to participate in a holistic psycho-social support programme.

The programme aims to enable the youth to meaningfully participate in the local economy in the future, due to its holistic nature.

Due to it not being restrictive in terms of fields of study or institutions, it is one of the company’s flagship community programmes.

The programme has been lauded by the beneficiaries, for empowering them with the tools and skills to reach their full potential.

The student support, which is a key component that further allows them access to study coaches and a number of tools, is beneficial to developing their soft skills in preparation for the work market.

The mentors engage with the students regularly to ensure that they are making optimal progress.
