ENDANGERED succulent plants with an estimated street value of over R200,000 was confiscated from a plot in Kharkams in Kammieskroon during a multi-disciplinary intelligence operation.

Captain Olebogeng Tawana said members of the Springbok K9 unit, Kammieskroon Visible Police and Springbok Public Order Police raided a 28-year-old suspect’s premises where they found 3,000 succulent plants as well as one live round of rifle ammunition.

“The suspect is expected to appear in the Kammieskroon Magistrate’s Court soon, on count of dealing in endangered plants and unlawful possession of ammunition.”

The station commander of the Kammieskroon police station Captain Gert Coetzee commended members who were involved in the operation for arresting the suspect.

“The police in the Namakwa district will continue to squeeze the space for criminals to operate and prevent them from stripping nature of these indigenous plants,” he added.
