SOL PLAATJE executive mayor Kagisho Sonyoni said that newly elected members of the mayoral committee (MMC) would serve a six-month probation period to assess their performance.
“Any individual deemed not to have met their set targets will be summarily replaced,” said Sonyoni.
He noted that the end of their probation would coincide with the presentation of the 2022/23 budget.
“An announcement on the performance of the MMC will be made and a decision going forward taken. They will account to council on a regular basis on their work and decisions.”
Sonyoni called on the newly elected mayoral committee members to be accountable to management and to keep oversight over their respective portfolios.
“We expect from them to be team members and to be supportive of the overall goals of the
Sol Plaatje Municipality. They must assist in building human resources and implement plans. The days of there being no consequence or unaccountability are history.
“MMC members must not forget that they are servants of the people and must be at the
heart of what we always execute.
“The team of individuals will drive the agenda of growth and development in the municipality to improve the quality of services provided to our people. They will be expected to be solution oriented and eager to bring about change in our people’s lives.”
Sonyoni committed to address youth unemployment.
