THE GREATER police stations in the Kathu and Postmasburg areas yielded successes during Operation Basadi actions that were executed this week.

This year’s Women’s Month campaign was celebrated under the theme “Women’s socio-economic rights, empowerment and resilience”.

This multidisciplinary operation on Tuesday was held with support from provincial and local traffic departments, the Department of Correctional Services, the Department of Home Affairs, Kumba Mine, Community in Blue patrollers, the Community Police Forum (CPF) and other external role-players.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said a women law enforcement multidisciplinary parade, led by the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, was held at the Siyathemba police station in Kathu, where Otola also relayed the purpose of the day.

“The dignitaries and members were formally welcomed in Kathu by a representative from the John Taolo District Municipality,” said Kock.

“Messages of support were delivered by the deputy national commissioner for policing, Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili, the district commissioner of Ekurhuleni, Major-General Anna Sithole, who is also the National Women’s Network Champion, and the provincial CPF chairperson, Ephraim Homan.

“The messages were followed by the keynote address by the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Nomandla Bloem.”

Members from the Men for Change national executive committee as well as the national executive of the Women’s Network were also in attendance.

NC Provincial Women’s Network Champion, Brigadier Thabo Moeng directed the programme in conjunction with the national secretary of Men for Change, SAC Mudauis.

“The deputy provincial commissioner for Corporate Services, Major-General Henriette De Waal, delivered the vote of thanks and urged the members to be alert and vigilant when they performed their duties.

The operations saw two static roadblocks on the Kathu/Postmasburg road and the Kathu/Kuruman road, Which, Kock said, resulted in numerous successes.

Bloem, Mosikili, Otola and the entourage engaged with motorists and distributed marketing material while interacting with community members.

“The teams visited several scrap metal dealers and second-hand goods outlets and conducted compliance inspections in both Kathu and Postmasburg.

“Mass blue-light patrols and raiding of liquor outlets to stamp down the authority of the state brought a sense of calmness and tranquillity to the mining towns,” said Kock.
