A police sergeant attached to the Prieska police station is in a critical condition in a Kimberley hospital after her police service vehicle was involved in an accident.

A POLICE sergeant attached to the Prieska police station is in a critical condition in a hospital in Kimberley after the police service vehicle she was travelling in was involved in an accident.

The local police are investigating a case of negligent driving following the incident that occurred on Tuesday.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the police vehicle was involved in an accident approximately five kilometres outside of Prieska and the officer has been airlifted to Kimberley for medical attention.

“On the day (Tuesday), at about 3.45pm, the female sergeant was travelling from De Aar to Prieska. The vehicle was involved in an accident and rolled several times. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The victim was transported to the hospital in Prieska and later airlifted to Kimberley for medical treatment and is in a critical condition,” said Kock.
