A TOTAL of 52,408 online admission applications for Grades R, 1 and 8 for the 2024 academic year were received by the Northern Cape Department of Education by the close of the online process.

The department stated that a total of 23,913 unique applications were received.

Department spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe said the online admissions process concluded smoothly.

“The department is satisfied with the manner in which our admissions teams, at the district offices and walk-in centres, were able to capture and record applications from the public. We extend our sincere gratitude to these officials who ensured the smooth running of the admission process,” said Van der Merwe.

He added that those parents who failed to apply timeously will have to wait on the availability of space at schools to know where their children will be placed.

“Parents and legal guardians who applied on time will be notified about the outcome of their application from August 18, 2023. All applications received after the closing date of the application process, June 22, 2023, will be deemed as late applications. Late applications will be acknowledged and recorded as late and automated placements which will be based on the availability of school space,” Van der Merwe said.
