Members of the Kathu Crime Prevention Group were conducting patrols on the R380 when they noticed a suspicious vehicle.

A 35-YEAR-old foreign national was arrested after he threw drugs out of a vehicle when he was stopped by the police on the R380 near Kathu.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said members of the Kathu Crime Prevention Group – Sergeant Ben Eiman and constables Blythe Jantjes and Beatrice Canchibato – were conducting patrols on the R380 on Sunday at 2.45pm when they noticed a brown Kia Picanto with a GP registration plate travelling very slowly.

“As the members approached the vehicle in which three occupants were travelling, they noticed the passenger kept looking back and was busy with something. Upon stopping the vehicle, one of the occupants immediately opened the passenger door and threw out small white substances from the car,” said Gamieldien.

She added that the police searched the vehicle and found crystal meth inside the car and outside next to the vehicle.

“They arrested a 35-year-old foreign national and charged him for possession of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R500.”

Gamieldien said the suspect was expected to appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon.
