Provincial police commissioner has assured residents service delivery will not be interrupted.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri has assured the community of Deben and surrounding areas that service delivery will not be disrupted, following the temporary closure of the Deben police station in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district.

The police station was evacuated on Friday after a SAPS member tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, stated that the police station was expected to reopen on Wednesday (May 20) following decontamination of the premises.

“All members who came into contact with the member are undergoing testing and screening, while the infected member was placed in quarantine.

“Any member that tests positive will also be quarantined while those who test negative will return to work.”

He indicated that a temporary community client service centre had been established outside the Deben Police Station, to ensure that services continued uninterrupted.

“Members of the Kathu police will assist where communities require police services.”
