Party president Cyril Ramaphosa and acting secretary-general Jessie Duarte will attend the conference in Springbok this weekend.
ANC PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa and acting secretary-general Jessie Duarte will attend the party’s 9th provincial conference in Springbok this coming weekend.
The ANC Northern Cape provincial conference will be convened from May 28-30 despite the failure of the party’s John Taolo Gaetsewe region to convene its regional conference.
Provincial secretary Deshi Ngxanga said that the provincial conference will be convened following “very successful” regional conferences in the Frances Baard, Pixley ka Seme, Namakwa and ZF Mgcawu districts.
“All the regional conferences were characterised by robust discussions on how to better the lives of our people.”
Ngxanga said the JTG region did not convene its conference due to a low turn-out of delegates and a failure to meet the quorum
The provincial executive committee (PEC) has, however, decided that the JTG region will be allowed to send a delegation from its various branches to the provincial conference, and that their conference will be reconvened.
Ngxanga said that 90 percent of the delegates at the provincial conference would be from branches in good standing.
He said that 190 branches were in good standing, while 170 qualified for the conference.
He added that 42 disputes were received across all regions and were dealt with by the provincial dispute resolution committee.
Several ANC members had approached the court in an attempt to interdict the provincial conference following the disputes, which Ngxanga said had now been resolved.
The Gauteng Local Division of the High Court dismissed the attempt to halt the conference.
