A man accused of repeatedly raping an 11-year-old girl has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in the Kuruman regional court.
A MAN accused of repeatedly raping an 11-year-old girl has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in the Kuruman Regional court.
Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said that during court proceedings, it was discovered that the accused Rapelang Lehumanego, 31, had raped the girl on more than one occasion during November 2019.
“The girl was raped when she visited the accused’s parents’ home to watch television. The accused was arrested on November 6 2019 after the girl told her mother about the rape incidents.
“The investigating officer Sergeant Lebogang Serati from the Kuruman Family, Child and Sexual Offences unit successfully opposed bail and Lehumanego remained in police custody until he was sentenced on September 14.”
He added that Lehumanego was declared unfit to possess a firearm while his name was recorded in the national sexual offenders register.
