It is believed the suspect demanded to be compensated to secure a tender.

A 20-year-old suspect who allegedly impersonated an employee from Nama Khoi Municipality in Springbok was arrested on charges of corruption during an intelligence driven operation by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Counter Intelligence and Public Order Policing on Friday, September 17.

Hawks spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi said on Saturday that the team followed up on information after the suspect allegedly approached an agent and offered to sell a fraudulent tender from Nama Khoi Municipality to the value of R15 million.

“It is further alleged that the suspect demanded R100 000 from the agent in order to secure the tender. The suspect further demanded a fee of R10 000 for administration purposes.”

She said the suspect was arrested after the agent handed over the R10 000 to the suspect during a disruptive operation.

Mnisi stated that the suspect was expected to appear in the Springbok magistrates court on Monday, September 20.
