A NORTHERN Cape man who was found guilty of raping a 27-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl in Pampierstad was handed a 25-year sentence and an additional 23-year sentence by the Warrenton Magistrate’s Court this week.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said on Thursday that the first incident took place when a 27-year-old woman was accosted by two unknown men while she was walking alone near the Harts River in Pampierstad on December 10, 2016, at around 2pm.

“She was assaulted, strangled, then forced to undress herself and raped by both the accused,” said Kock.

He added that the police noticed similarities relating to the rape of a 12-year-old girl, also near the Harts River, when they arrested the accused, Johannes Julies, 27, on March 5, 2021.

“Julies was sentenced to 23 years for the rape of the minor and was given an additional 25 years for the rape of the 27-year-old woman by the Warrenton Regional Court on September 21 .”

Kock stated that Lebogang Bosman, 29, was arrested on March 5, 2021 in connection with the rape of the 27-year-old woman.

“The case was separated and he (Bosman) was expected to appear in the Kimberley Regional Court on September 22.”

The provincial head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS), Brigadier Nicky Mills, commended Detective Sergeant Sidwell Dastile from Hartswater FCS for his “meticulous investigation” that led to the conviction of the accused.
