A 40-year-old man was arrested by the Deben police for theft after he was found transporting suspected stolen bags of cement on the back of a bakkie.
A 40-YEAR-old man was arrested by Deben SAPS members for theft on January 19, at about 11.20pm, after he was found transporting suspected stolen bags of cement on the back of a bakkie.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Mosimaneotsile Letsapa said that a farm owner saw a white double-cab Isuzu bakkie with bags of cement on the back and stopped the vehicle and informed the police immediately.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police requested proof of purchase for 32 bags of cement, which the driver was unable to produce.
He was arrested for theft and 32 bags of cement and a bakkie were seized.
The Northern Cape SAPS management commended the Deben SAPS members for their swift response and commended the farming community for their assistance and co-operation in the fight against crime.
Letsapa said that the suspect is expected to appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of theft.
