Love is in the air, on the tar … and, oddly enough, in the kennel.

After all, what better way is there to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by spreading love and compassion to our furry companions?

The Kimberley Harriers Running Club is doing just that, gearing up for a heartwarming event that combines fitness, kindness and a whole lot of fun.

On the eve of Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 13, at 5.30pm, runners and walkers alike will converge at Diamantveld High School for a special 4km fun run/walk in support of the Kimberley SPCA.

This event promises to be not only a celebration of love but also a testament to the running community’s dedication to animal welfare.

However, the real show of love comes through the act of giving. While there is no registration fee, donations will be graciously accepted on the day, with all proceeds going towards the care and support of the animals at the Kimberley SPCA.

But what exactly can participants contribute? The options are as varied as they are heartfelt. From bags of dog and cat food to snug blankets for those chilly nights – or in our summer, providing a soft spot on the floor of a kennel – every donation, big or small, makes a difference.

Additionally, cash donations are warmly welcomed, providing vital funds for veterinary care, shelter maintenance, and other essential services for our beloved furry friends.

So next Tuesday, as the sun sets on the Kimberley skyline, runners will pound the pavement with purpose; their strides fueled not only by the thrill of the run but also by the knowledge that their efforts are making a tangible impact on the lives of animals in need.

And for those who prefer a leisurely stroll, every step taken is a step towards creating a brighter future for our four-legged companions.

Therefore, lace up your sneakers, grab your loved ones – both two-legged and four – and join the Kimberley Harriers Running Club for a Valentine’s Day fun run celebration.

Together, everyone involved can run, walk, and wag their way towards a world where every animal knows the true meaning of love and compassion.
