A NIGERIAN national was arrested in Kimberley on the weekend during a multidisciplinary law enforcement operation, where drugs with an estimated street value of R30,000 were found in his possession.

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the 43-year-old suspect was arrested following a raid at his residence.

“On Saturday, February 5, 2022, the Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime, Provincial Crime Intelligence, Kimberley Flying Squad and Kimberley K9 units secured a search warrant, subsequent to receiving intelligence regarding alleged drug dealing activities at the residence of the suspect in Reservoir Street in Kimberley,” said Tawana.

During the search, the narcotics dog ‘Eddie’ reacted positively and led his handler to a garbage bag where khat, weighing 0.1kg, was found concealed. Cash to the value of R2,640, believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing, was also confiscated.”

Tawana said the suspect is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of dealing in drugs.

He added that the multidisciplinary team was commended for the arrest.

“The Northern Cape South African Police provincial management applauded members involved in the operation for eradicating drugs from the streets,” said Tawana.
