IN A SWIFT operation, law enforcement agencies thwarted an alleged meeting to plan robberies in the Kimberley area. The joint effort involved members from the Provincial Organised Crime unit, Multi-Dimensional Crime Intelligence, the Kimberley K9 unit and the Kimberley Flying Squad.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, at approximately 5pm on April 17, information regarding the meeting was received and operationalised. An identified residence in Galeshewe was raided, leading to the apprehension of three suspects.

These individuals were found in possession of South African Police Service (SAPS) uniforms, rank insignia and equipment, as well as three illegal firearms.

The trio, aged 29, 34 and 54, were arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen goods and illegal possession of firearms. They are expected to appear in court soon.

Ehlers added that authorities are also investigating the possible connection to related crimes.

The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, commended the team for their vigilance and swift action, which prevented the commission of potential serious and violent crimes.
