A foreign national was sentenced to 18 years’ direct imprisonment by the Galeshewe Regional Court for murder and contravening the Immigration Act.
THE GALESHEWE Regional Court handed down an 18-year direct imprisonment sentence to Neo Tekete, 34, for murder and contravening the Immigration Act.
Tekete, a foreign national, was on trial for fatally stabbing a fellow countryman, 35-year-old Thabane Jacob Botlhoko.
The court heard that Tekete and Botlhoko were walking in the early hours of the morning from a tavern and became involved in an argument.
The argument escalated to a fight, which led to Tekete stabbing Botlhoko with a sharp object, resulting in his death.
The police investigation revealed that Botlhoko had 19 stab wounds to his body.
Tekete was sentenced for one count of murder and one count of contravening the Immigration Act. Both sentences will run concurrently and Tekete will be deported to his country of origin once his sentence has been served.
The station commander of Kagisho police station, Colonel Michelle Ford, applauded Detective Sergeant Mutenyane Serathi and his team, comprising of sergeants Dineo Motheothatha, Charmaine Moatlodi and Boitumelo Louw and Khalala Seotsa, for the professional and meticulous manner in which the evidence was collected and the case investigated.
She further thanked the Phomolong community and all stakeholders for their active participation in ensuring that the perpetrator was brought to book.
