Five candidates to contest Ward 21 by-election

A BY-ELECTION will be held in Ward 21 of Sol Plaatje Municipality on Wednesday.

The ward became vacant after the membership of DA councillor Morné McDillon was terminated after the party confirmed that he had been found guilty of a criminal offence on April 24.

The candidates who will be contesting Ward 21 include independent candidate Lucas Ruiters, Ranolang Edwin Tokgwi from the ANC, DA candidate Jamie-Lee Andrea Simoné Greeff, Selebogo Devillier More from the EFF and Johan Dawid Griesel of the FF+.

The Electoral Commission said the voter turnout for this ward during the 2021 local government elections was 48.52 percent, where the DA won 51.14 percent of the vote.
