EIGHT suspects were arrested during “Operation Vuthu Hawe” for drug-related offences after the Springbok Public Order Police raided two houses and seized drugs with an estimated street value of nearly R200,000.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said that five female suspects were arrested in Bergsig on August 30 after the police found five zip-locked bags containing tik.

“This led them to a premises where the police seized 510 grams of tik and 500 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R180,000,” said Kock.

“In a separate incident, the members arrested three men at a second house in Bergsig and confiscated 50g of tik and 20 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R17,000 and also seized an undisclosed amount of cash.”

Kock added that the eight suspects were expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of dealing in drugs.

The Namakwa district commissioner, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, commended the Springbok Public Order Police unit members for their “vigilance and commitment” that led to the arrests.
