Deputy minister to launch National Reconciliation Month in Kuruman

THE DEPUTY Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nocawe Mafu, in collaboration with the Northern Cape provincial government, will officially launch National Reconciliation Month 2023 at Ba Gamotlhware Traditional Council-Batlharos in Kuruman on Tuesday.

The chief director of communication and marketing at the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Zimasa Velaphi, said Mafu would outline the month’s activities and would also officially hand over an outdoor gym and children’s play park during the launch.

“Mafu will be accompanied by the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Desery Fienies, the executive mayor of John Taolo District Municipality, Queen Mogatle, the executive mayor of Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality, Neo Masegela, and members of Ba-Gamotlhware traditional council,” said Velaphi.

Meanwhile, the Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and the Department of Education, in collaboration with the national Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) and the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), are hosting the 11th annual Youth Camp at Duin in die Weg resort in Grootdrink, near Upington, in the ZF Mgcawu District from December 3 to 8.

Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture spokesperson Conrad Fortune said that 100 participants between the ages of 16 to 18 years old were selected from the Province’s five districts.

“The Youth Camp’s motto – ‘learn, lead and serve’ – captures the essence of its focus, which is to nurture a spirit of social cohesion and nation building and provide young South Africans with life skills and values that will help them develop into proud and patriotic citizens,” said Fortune.
