A 19-YEAR-old man was arrested by the Kagisho police after he was allegedly caught red-handed trying to steal cables in Nobengula Street in Galeshewe in Kimberley.

A 19-YEAR-old man was arrested by the Kagisho police after he was allegedly caught red-handed trying to steal cables in Nobengula Street in Galeshewe in Kimberley.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said the suspect was arrested during the early hours of Friday, May 20, 2022.

“The suspect was charged for tampering or damaging essential infrastructure. The vigilance of the shift members patrolling the hotspot area for possible cable theft along Nobengula street spotted and caught the suspect in the act. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon. The Kagisho Station Commander, Colonel Michelle Ford commended members for their vigilance and alertness. Ford stated that the removal of copper cables often results in extensive power outages for the residents. These acts have a negative impact on our communities. Those found guilty of such acts should be dealt with harshly. The investigation continues,” said Sam.
